Architecture, Design and Planning are the integral part of human civilization pursued by mankind since ancient days and got refined at subsequent ages emerging as a profession. Today these professions have gained paramount significance where high technology, science creativity and art is put to highest challenge of satisfying needs life greatly depends on quality of built environment. The concern for making the built environment most conducive and sustainable along with conservation of natural and financial resources, has added more seriousness to the nature of these fields.

Architecture is concerned with the design and construction of buildings in their sociological, technical and environmental contexts. There is increasing recognition of architecture as one of the top intellectual disciplines, an art form, and a technical profession intimately linked with the single largest sector of investment in the economy. Architects are called upon to design and execute building projects and resolve other issues related to the manmade environment in a variety of settings.
Bachelor of Architecture programme aims at attaining a high level of contextual excellence in architectural design. Both theory and studio exercises are viewed as the core of the programme with crucial inputs being provided by experts specializing in the fields of arts, humanities, engineering and technology, and professional practice of architecture. A strong foundation of multi-disciplinary enabling skills related to space, construction environments and aesthetics are offered to the students. Among others, these skills include drawing, architectural presentation, research and writing, computer applications, technical and managerial aptitudes in problem definition and solution seeking.

Through this five year programme we expect to impart broad based architectural education, which we believe, serves as a window to multiple career choices and job opportunities depending on personal interests of the students in the public, private, NGO and multinational corporate sectors. Students wishing to pursue further studies are eligible to apply for any of the masters and doctoral programmes being run by the various Schools throughout India & abroad.

The students of Bachelor of Architecture programme are exposed to a rich variety of design and planning expertise through full time faculty from several departments of studies in the Faculty of Architecture, and distinguished visiting faculty. Outstanding professionals serve on our design juries.

Job Opportunities
Architects work closely with other members of the construction industry including engineers, builders, surveyors, local authority planners and building control officers. Much of their time is spent visiting sites, assessing the feasibility of a project, inspecting building work or managing the construction process. They also spend time researching old records and drawings, and testing new ideas and construction techniques.

As professional experts in the field of building design and construction, architects use their unique creative skills to advise individuals, property owners and developers, community groups, local authorities and commercial organizations. Generally architects work with architectural firms, in entrepreneurial ventures. But they are not limited to working only at traditional architectural firms. They also work as corporate and public architects.
Corporate architects are employed within the retail, office, manufacturing, medical and hospitality industries, and there are numerous job choices available at such companies, ranging from entry-level planners to high level executives.

Public architects work for government agencies. The government recruits architects to serve on capital projects planning, design and construction programs. The architect may be a direct government employee or hired as a consultant. Public architects get to work with Ministry of Urban Development, Central Public Works Department (CPWD). CPWD is responsible for a wide range of projects such as housing and commercial complexes, educational institutions, sports complexes, hospitals, factories, hostels, airports, roads, bridges etc. Other major public sector bodies employing architects are Town and Country Planning Organization, The National Building Organization, HUDCO, The National Building Construction Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Prefeb Ltd.

Besides these, some Public institutes and agencies that function at the state level are: Public Works Departments, State housing boards, municipal corporations, cooperative societies.

A number of research institutes such as the Central Building Research Institute and the Central Road Research Institute are involved in research and development in this field. Researches are conducted to invent new methods and techniques of construction, so that the cost of construction may be minimized. Researches are also conducted to invent new equipment and good quality construction material.

In terms of other career options, architects can serve as writers, critics and educators.
