The College started functioning on the banks of river Siang in the barracks of Assam Riffles, and was later on shifted to its present site on the Hill Top, situated at a distance of 3 kms. from Pasighat town in 1967. Initially the College was started with 8 faculty members and 42 students and only ‘Humanities' courses were taught; today the College has a teaching strength of 57 Lecturers and the student strength has increased to nearly 2000.The College was affiliated to Gauhati university since its inception in 1964, and then to the Punjab University in 1979.Presently it is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University (formerly known as Arunachal University) w.e.f 1985.It has 13 Departments under Humanities, Science and Commerce and both Pass as well as Honours courses is available to the students in all streams.
The College is spread over two campuses - the lower campus that is the residential area with all the hostels - 10 in number, two for girls and eight for boys, accommodation for the teachers and other staff, College Auditorium Cum Students' Centre and play ground. The upper campus is situated at a distance of about 500 meters from the lower campus and houses the administrative block, the teaching departments and the College library.
Student must have secured 45% marks in BA/BSc/ Ist year (50% for non-APST students) in Theory and Practical separately in the subject in which he/she is desirous of studying Honours. For B. Com, a minimum of 40% marks for APST and 45% marks for non APST students is required to be obtained in I year.
Students, after getting admitted into II Year (Pass course), will have to apply only in prescribed format specifying preference of subject for a seat in Honours Course along with attested copy of Mark sheet for appearing in the Honours Selection Test. Application is to be deposited to the Academic Branch.
Seats in Honours courses are limited and hence the students will be screened through an Honours Selection test (Max. Marks:50) and the Academic Committee will do selection on merit basis centrally (50% of Univ. Marks + Hons. Selection test marks). The test is on first year syllabus only. 80% of the total seats in each subject are reserved for APST students. A minimum of 25% in the Honours Selection test is compulsory.

English-50, History-50, Political Science-50, Geography-30, Education-25, Economics-25, Hindi-50, Botany-15, Zoology-15, Mathematics-15, Physics-10, Chemistry-10, Commerce-25.
