Bio-Medical Engineering integrates physical, chemical, mathematical and computational science and engineering principal to study biology, medicine, behaviour and health. The field of biomedical engineering has been a dramatic escalation in activity over the past 10 years, leading to the development of a wide variety of medical devices, medical procedures and a basic understanding of biological process engineering approaches are becoming increasingly important in modem biological and medical research and in the development of new technologies that stem from the recent discoveries.

Bio-Medical Engineering combines the thorough knowledge of the principles of both Medicine & Engineering. Hence, the Bio-Medical Engineers apply the concepts of biology, physics as well as chemistry to develop products for diagnosis and treatment. The Bio-Medical Engineers have to work closely in association with health care professionals like Doctors, Nurses, Therapists and Technicians.

As such as, a few colleges have introduced the new course namely B.E (BME) to the student community. Ours VCET is one of the colleges. The department of Bio-Medical Engineering is being equipped with requisite apparatus, devices and instruments in the phased manner, besides the well experienced professionals in this field.

Employment opportunities are immense with very good remuneration ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 for B.E Bio-Medical Engineers considering the fact that the aging of population and focus on health issues will increase the demand for better medical devices and equipments designed by Bio-Medical Engineers. The United States Department of Labor reports that "the Bio-Medical Engineering jobs will increase by 31.4% through 2010 - double the rate for all other jobs combined". Overall job growth in this field will average 15.2% through the end of the decade.
