Ceramic engineering involves the production of ceramic products like glass, semi-conductors,engine parts, fibre-optic phone lines, tiles, electric power line insulators etc.
Ceramic Engineers are employed in industries producing glass, cement, porcelain, enamel refractories, iron and steel, and in industries manufacturing special ceramics for power and nuclear energy projects, aerospace, R & D laboratories and defence establishments. Ceramic engineers design and develop products, which range from a flower vase to the ceramic nose cone for a missile.

Ceramics and Glass Engineers also work for companies using ceramic materials (ceramic fixtures, pavements and coatings/finishing, artistic ceramics, sanitaryware, components for the electronics industry, etc.) as well as for public or private laboratories in technical support or quality control functions. Good career opportunities exist with companies producing raw materials and glazes for the ceramics industry
