Introduction: A Communication model, Data Communications, Data Communication Networking.

Data Transmission and Encoding: Concepts & Terminology, Analog & Digital Data Transmission, Transmission Impairments, Channel Capacity, Transmission Media, Signal Encoding Techniques: Digital Data Digital Signals, Digital Data Analog Signals, Analog Data Digital Signals.

Digital Data Communication Techniques: Asychronous & synchronous transmission, Error detection, Error correction, Line configurations, Interfacing.

Data Link Control: Flow control, Error control, HDLC.

Multiplexing: FDM, Synchronous TDM, Statistical TDM, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. SDH and SONET.

Switching: Circuit Switching Networks, Concepts, Control Signaling, Softswitch Architecture, Packet switching, Packet size, X.25, Frame Relay, ATM, Message Switching.

Routing: Routing in circuit switched networks, Routing in packet switched networks.
