Bengali department came into existence with Elective Bengali (pass) course. Dr. Somendra Narayan Chaudhuri is the head of the department. Department is offering honours course from 1994. Department has well qualified teachers. Part time teachers also play an important role. Sri Banadev Mukherjee and Sri Rabi Roy and Dr. Somendra Narayan Chaudhuri are like three pillars of the department.

The success rate of the department is hundred percent. To improve the standard and quality of course, a number of teaching-aids like audio-cassettes, paintings etc are used by the teachers. Educational tour is one of the most innovative idea of the department.
