The RVS College of Arts and Science is affiliated to the Bharathiar University and it blossomed into a full-fledged centre of learning on 31st October, 1986 with 83 students and nine staff members. At present, there are 133 members in the teaching staff and 45 non-teaching staff serving about 2500 students. In the beginning, the college offered 4 PG courses and 10 UG courses including Bachelor of Computer science, Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Commerce. During 1987 the University gave affiliation to B.Sc. Electronics and for M.Com in 1989. The College got the affiliation for M.C.A. Course and B.Sc. Catering Science & Hotel Management during 1991.
In 1993 the University sanctioned B.Sc. Computer Science (Evening College). To add a feather to the cap, the institution came up with Master of Business Administration programme (M.B.A.) in the year 1994 and M.Sc. Food and Nutrition, B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Catering Science and Hotel Management (Evening) and B.Sc. Biochemistry in the year 1995. In the direction of growth and development, the institution started offering Master of International Business programme (MIB), Master of Business Administration (Part time) and B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics in the year 1997. To add to the courses offered, M.Sc. Computer Communication was taken into fold in 1998.
In the academic year, (2001-2002) the college got affiliation for another section of B.C.A., B.Com with Computer Applications, M.Sc. Electronics and M.Sc. Information Science.
During the academic year 2001-2002 the NAAC visited the college and accredited it with 4 Star status. It is indeed a great achievement of the institution which has only completed Nineteen years. The credit goes to the sheer hard work of the dedicated staff members under the efficient and able guidance of the Secretary, Principal and the Vice Principal. The college received ISO 9001-2000 certification in June 2002 and autonomy in September 2004.
