For many years the country has become increasingly conscious of the hazards of fire in buildings. Much of this awareness has been brought about be some terrible fire tragedies in our past. There have been many regulations introduced to improve the fire safety aspects of buildings and these regulations play a very significant part in building design. This is the only honours degree programme specializing in fire technology. Students on this programme will study a range of mainstream and specialized fire technology subjects. The programme was designed with the needs of modern and existing buildings in mind. The B.Sc. graduate will focus on the application of the science and implementation of the knowledge derived from the study programme. The aim of the programme is to give the graduate the knowledge and skills to do this successfully.

Graduate of this programme find work in a wide range of different jobs. For example, they may work as a project technician involved with the design, installation and testing of new pieces of equipment, as a maintenance engineer, supervising a group of maintenance people, to ensure production machinery runs smoothly with minimum breakdowns, in technical sales, presenting technical aspects of specialist engineering equipment to clients & as a field service technician, installing and maintaining industrial automation equipment.
