Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science with mathematics, to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. It largely involves the design and maintenance of chemical processes for large-scale manufacture. Chemical engineers are now engaged in the development and production of a diverse range of products like fabrics, adhesives, biocompatible materials for implants, prosthetics, gels etc as well as in commodity and specialty chemicals.
NIT Calicut's Chemical Engineering Department offer academic programs that prepare students to master physical, chemical, and biological processes, engineering design, and synthesis skills; creatively shape and solve complex problems. The course offered covers mass-, heat- and momentum- transfer operations, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, transport phenomena, simulation and process control, environmental engineering, energy engineering etc.
