Within the short span of time the department has established an excellent teaching-learning process through interactive question-answer and lecture-demonstration, tutorials and home assignments along with regular formative and summative evaluation. Laboratory experiments, investigations and verification, design-drawing as well as computer-aided design and various sessional classes, industrial training of pre-final year students, final year projects, seminars, etc. are a part and parcel of curriculum implementation process. The department attempts to maintain a high degree of academic achievement of students through regular and end of the semester assessment and rectification through viva-voce apart from WBUT final scheduled examinations.

The department is gradually shifting its laboratories to the new 3 rd building of the Institute where the space is more as compared to the existing ones. While the departmental laboratories, specially the Geotechnical laboratory, have necessary facilities as per the requirement of curriculum, the department is further in the process of procurement state-of-the-art equipment for its Concrete, Environmental and Survey laboratories, such as the ones for various Non-destructive tests in modern construction quality assurance process, total station, etc.

The Department is planning to start the post-graduate programme of studies and research in near future.
