Electronics and Instrumentation department is one of the youngest departments in Pondicherry engineering College and was started in the year 1998, due to the high demand for Instrumentation engineers in various Industries, companies etc. So far seven batches have successfully completed with flying colors. The department is accredited by AICTE, New Delhi.
Qualified and experienced faculty members are an asset to the department. This department aims to impart quality education to students and to prepare the prospective engineers to shoulder key positions in vital industries, departments of national and international importance. As part of industrial and practical exposure, visits to various industries are arranged. Industrial training is imparted to the students during summer and winter vacations. The department has always been prompt to ensure the excellence of the students by arranging periodical seminars on current technical development. The latest advancements in the fields of technology and current affairs have been brought in for the easy access of the students.
The department recently conducted one International conference on Nano and Micro electronics during Jan 2008 and one National conference on Control, Instrumentation, measurement and automation during Feb. 2008.
The well equipped Laboratories in the department provide learning through experiments in software and hardware applications. The department is fully equipped with state of the art equipments. The department has obtained two AICTE grants in the last five years for Establishment and Modernization of Laboratories.
INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING
Instrumentation is the branch of science that deals with measurement and control in order to increase efficiency and safety in the workplace.
An instrument is a device placed in the field, or in the control room, to measure or manipulate flow, temperature, pressure and other variables in a process. Instruments include but are not limited to valves, transmitters, transducers, flame detectors and analyzers. Instruments send either pneumatic or electronic signals to controllers which manipulate final control elements (a valve) in order to get the process to a set point, usually decided by an operator.
Instrumentation engineering is the engineering specialization focused on the principle and operation of measuring instruments which are used in design and configuration of automated systems in electrical, pneumatic and various other domains
