- Distance learning
This programme focuses on the study of language and ways of understanding and describing the structure, evolution, history and sociology of languages. The first year introduces the basic analysis skills for the main components of language; sounds, grammar, and semantics (word meaning), and basic study and research skills.
Graduates of Linguistics tend to pursue careers in the field of language teaching, curriculum design or media, including journalism, publishing, or advertising. Many graduates continue to higher degrees or vocational qualifications, such as teaching certificates or speech therapy. Other specialised career paths are diverse and range from education or management to speech recognition technologies.
