BDS: General Medicine

The college offer number of courses, one of the course is BDS: General Medicine. This course is offer under the department of General Medicine.
The General Medicine O.P.D has been catering to 50-60 patients daily for the last 14 years. The dental patients referred to the Medicine OPD undergo a thorough medical evaluation. This begins with history taking to find out whether the patient is suffering from common medical diseases like Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc. followed by physical examination.

In selected cases, Electro-cardiography, Chest X ray and detailed biochemical tests are done. According to the situation, pre-medication is given or alteration in the dental protocol is made.

The department of Gen. Medicine is involved in undergraduate teaching at III BDS level. The emphasis is on

1. Oral manifestations of systemic diseases.
2. Medical risk assessment for dental treatment.
3. Management of medical emergencies on the dental chair.
