Course programme
key components
The first half of each session introduces theoretical and practical aspects of healthy building principles and design ideas affording you an opportunity to learn about various options for healthier building and practical issues around these choices. Comprehensive notes are provided for these theory sessions.
The second half of each session is more interactive involving participants and workshop instructors and designers. Individual design projects and ideas will be discussed in small groups, allowing everybody to get insight into transforming concepts and to work towards creating an initial house design.

Before the workshop you will be given an introductory pack including activities to help you start thinking about your home design. Through collecting images of building forms and design ideas you will begin to clarify your preferences.

workshop schedule
Session1: Friday 10th Dec : 10 - 1.30 pm
Theory: Introduction to ecological building design ideas and philosophy.
Practice: Group discussions on developing your design ideas and philosophy.
Session2: 2.30pm – 6 pm Theory: Site planning / Permaculture – sun, water, wind, views, privacy, access, soil, vegetation, geobiology, consents. Practice: The layout of your house as it relates to the site.
Session 1: Saturday 11th Dec : 10 - 1.30 pm
Theory: Design for Energy Efficiency – passive and active solar, wind water, space heating, cooking. Practice: Incorporating energy efficiency into you house design.
Session 2: 2:30pm – 6 pm Theory: Materials – what to use, availability and costs, alternative materials, colours, finishes & furniture. Practice: Choice of materials, form and structure of your house.
Session 1: Sunday 12th Dec : 10 - 1.30 pm
Theory: Electrical – power and lighting, plumbing – toilet systems, compost and traditional. Introduction to electrobiology.
Session 2: 2.30pm – 6 pm Practice: Water, wasterwater and electrical systems for your house and site. Completion: Session Presentation and discussion of projects.
