Course programme

The Centre for Vivekananda Studies was established by the U.G.C. as a part of the IXth Plan in its scheme of establishing Centres to commemorate the epoch-making social thinkers of India in session 2001-02. To disseminate the knowledge about our great cultural heritage the Centre initiated various activities including lectures and seminars with a special focus on Swami Vivekananda who was its luminary. After the inaugural lecture by Swami Gokulananda on September 16, 2002, in December 2002, a series of three lectures on Practical Vedanta, Divinity of Man and Science and Religion by Swami Brahmeshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Chandigarh, were organized.

This has two papers, Paper A is on the Life and works of Swami Vivekananda and Paper B has two parts its Part one is a study of Vivekananda and the sages of modern India and Part two involves the writing of a term paper on any aspect of the Thought of Swami Vivekananda. Centre also conducted a Personal Contact Programme for this course in which lectures were given on both the papers. It was followed by a video film on Swami Vivekananda and a session on guided meditation in the Ramakrishna Mission. The whole idea behind this course is to inculcate in the minds of the young the eternal values of our rich cultural heritage.
