This department was established in the year 1986 with an objective to produce world-class civil engineers. It is headed by Prof. A.L. Nashine. The other faculty members of the department have vast experience in the field as well. Dedicated to quality standards, the educational program has been accredited by NBA and includes a wide range of course work in structural analysis & design, Irrigation Engineering, Highway Engineering, Water & Wastewater Management, etc. A P.G. course in Environmental Engineering has also been added since 2003 which is being coordinated by Prof. A.L. Nashine.
The department is supported by well-equipped laboratories, which are regularly used for testing building materials as per I.S. standard. These assignments are undertaken for organizations such as Railways, P.W.D., Zilla Parishad, M.I.D.C. etc.
The department renders extensive consultancy services in structural and other Civil Engineering fields. The department is also empanelled as the Technical Service Provider of "Jal Swarajya" and serving as the third-party inspection agency for "Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana" of worth 45 crores for Gondia district.
FLUID MECHANICS I & II
There is an fully equipped lab divided in two different parts mainly Hydraulics lab & Fluid Machins lab. Hydraulic laboratory is fully equipped as per U.G. standards. It incorporates Orifice meter, Venturimeter, Pitot tube, Jet Apparatus, Ship model, Bernoullis setup, Reynolds setup, Notches, different diameter of pipes etc.
Fluid machine laboratory incorporates Hydraulic flume, Centrifugal & Reciprocating pump, Pelton wheel & Francis Turbine, Plug sluices, etc.
Structural Analysis laboratory is equipped with facilities for conducting studies as per the syllabus. The experiments include structural model testing of various categories of structures in civil engg. works. The load deflection & stress measurements are the main areas of testing in this laboratory.
STRENGTH OF MATERIALS
Strength of Materials laboratory has a lions share in the field of testing of materials. The laboratory is well equipped for conducting experiments as per the norms. Various tests on steel are carried out in it.
It is the leading laboratory of the Civil Engg. Deptt. in the field of testing of materials. It is well equipped for conducting experiments as per the norms. Various tests on soil subgrade, road metal & bituminous binders are carried out in it.
It is the core laboratory of the department in which most of the testing on cement concrete cubes and bricks are conduted. It incorporates compression testing machine, Vicat Apparatus, Prestressing Machine, Tensile testing machine, Concrete Hammer etc. Experiments as prescribed by the University are being conducted in addition to material testing for various Govt. departments.
The department of Civil Engg. has well equipped Environmental Engineering laboratory. All the practicals for testing water & wastewater can be conducted in the lab. as per the Unversity syllabus at U.G. & P.G. levels. The research as well as consultancy work is also carried out in this laboratory.
The Geotechnical Engineering laboratory is one of core laboratories of the Civil Engg. Department. It is well equipped and all the major soil tests namely Triaxial and direct shear test, California bearing ratio test, Plate load test, Consolidation and Standard penetration test are conducted. The laboratory is extensively being used for academic as well as testing and consultancy works.
The Engg. Mechanics lab. of Civil Engg. Deptt. is connected with first year B.E. is having a capacity of getting 26 experiments conducted, out of which 12 experiments are kept in list every year turn by turn.
The apparatus included in the list are Fletchers trolly; Atwoods Machine, Jib Crane, Shear logs apparatus, Fly wheel, Double purchase winch crab., Single purchase winch crab, Worm & Worm wheel; Simple Roof Truss; Simply Supported Beam; Belt & Pulley apparatus, Screw Jack; Differential wheel and Axle apparatus, Parallelogram law of forces, compound pendulum, Universal force table, Measurement of Human Power etc.
