This paper provides the student a thorough knowledge in principles and methods ,
vectors in gene cloning.
Objective: The main objective of the paper is to expose students to field of cloning
vectors.
Goal: This paper will help the student get a grasp of the latest advances in construction of
cloning vectors in transgenic research.
Subject Description :
Unit I:
Gene cloning vectors- Biology construction of Plasmids, lambda Bacteriophages,
Cosmids, Phasmids vectors. Binary and Co integrative vectors.
Unit II:
Specialized vectors- Expression vectors, shuttle vectors, M!3 vectors, Plant viral
vectors. Gemini viruses as cloning vectors. Expression vectors. Lambda phage
vectors. Caulimovirus vector
Unit III:
Animal vectors- Retroviral vectors, SV 40, FMD viral vector , Vaccinia viral
Vector. P element vector for Drosophilla. Baculovirus vetor
Unit IV:
Development of plant vectors for transformation - Ti and Ri plasmid vectorsother
cloning vectors used in transgenic plant production - construction and
specific applications.
Unit V:
Super vectors :Artificial chromosomes: PAC,BAC, YAC, HAC, MAC .
Construction of vectors for the desired gene.
