In recent years, the group has provided new inputs through its research,
teaching and consulting on corporate restructuring, merger activity,
competitive strategies and international business. A few optional
courses on these are offered and more are planned.
The maximum number of students for the class will be 50. Only credit students will be eligible.
§ Course Objective:
The objective of this course is to provide a strategic perspective in the area of New Ventures. It explores the process of starting a venture and highlights critical issues faced, the problems that are confronted as the business grows, the dilemmas that emerge and the decisions that need to be made. The course is aimed at providing insight to potential entrepreneurs, managers of new projects, investors, advisors and policy makers.

2. The Business Idea
3. Writing Business Plan
4. Starting a Venture
5. Nurturing a Venture
6. Ending a Venture
7. Corporate Entrepreneurship
8. Organizational Forms
9. New Venture Marketing
10. Financing Projects
11. Legal Issues
12. Human Issues
§ Reading Materials:
PGP office will provide (a) A booklet with relevant articles, and (b) A collection of cases.
§ Course Evaluation:
Class presentations, quizzes, group assignments, and end-term examination will be the major elements used for evaluating the participant's performance in the course. Quizzes will be held in the class and will not be announced before. For assignments, you will have to form yourselves into groups.
§ Academic Honesty:
Honesty and integrity are critical attributes in both our professional and personal lives. I expect you to maintain a very high standard of academic honesty. Dishonesty may result in a grade reduction or other penalties.
§ Class Rules:
Your enrollment in this course indicates your agreement to follow the class rules. This means:
- Be on time to class and don't leave early.
- Be quiet when someone else is officially speaking.
- Don't read newspapers or do outside work in class.
- Leave the classroom as clean or cleaner than you found it.
