Bioinformatics has emerged as a new multidisciplinary subject that uses advances in the areas of Information Technology to solve complex problems in Life Sciences that directs the future course of biological sciences.
The two years Master’s degree program in Bioinformatics at Sri Ramachandra University is a non-medical credit-based course aimed at training students from basic sciences or medicine in the ever-burgeoning field of Bioinformatics to understand the concepts of Genomics, Proteomics and Drug Discovery and its application in medicine and other areas.
The curriculum is on par with international standards. Each module consists of lectures, tutorials, seminar, industrial visits, practical training, assignments, journal clubs, record writing and project work. The course facilitates extensive computing facilities in genomic and proteomic software, etc. All the candidates are required to submit a research project at the end of the fourth semester.
The department is located in the left wing of fourth floor of the OP Building, occupying more than 25,000 sq. feet. The department was started on 14.02.2003 amongst the 100 and odd departments of the University, which boasts of more than 120 courses.
