Description

The health services delivery sector is undergoing rapid change. Greater emphasis is being placed on health promotion and disease prevention as a means to reduce the cost of care by improving the population's health. This is a huge challenge being faced by the government and calls for the development of capacity in the health systems. This necessitates deploying qualified professionals who can execute and monitor national health policies and programs, supervise the public health workforce, fully assess the dimensions of public health issues and devise appropriate strategies to meet the emerging challenges.

There is an acute scarcity of public health specialists, especially in a developing country like India and therefore there is a need to devise programs which will impart the skills required to tackle the existing and emerging public health challenges and to enhance the capacity of the public health workforce in managerial aspects.
