About this course

Master's Degree or equivalent with minimum 55 % marks or equivalent grade in Business Management or Administration/Social Science/ Humanities/ Biological Science/ Engineering/ Technology/ Pure Science/ Commerce.

The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years work experience in industry/ academia/ government at the executive level

Doctoral Programme in management (Marketing)

The Doctoral Programme at SVKM's NMIMS University is designed with a view to develop original managerial thinking and academia with research & teaching aptitude. The School of Business Management
offers Ph. D. in the following areas:
-Marketing
-Human Resources and Behavioural Science
-Operations
-Finance
-Strategy
-Information Systems and
-Social Entrepreneurship

The entire Ph. D. programme shall approximately be of 4 to 5 years duration and shall run in III phases. Phases I & II relate to the coursework and Phase III relates to the thesis work.

The programme is structured with a view to develop academic pursuits in research scholars. It runs in three phases.

-Phase I (For non MBAs ----- select coursework from MBA Programme)
-Phase II (For MBAs ----- coursework for Ph. D.)
-Phase III ----- Research work

Components of Phase I : (Management related Coursework)

The objective of Phase I is to develop understanding of the management concepts & functions. The total credit for the coursework shall be 15 credits. The coursework will be customized as per the student's academic / research requirement. As per the University rules the student is required to have 80% attendance in each subject. The student will have to successfully complete the coursework inclusive of examination in a period of one year duration. The students are required to attend required courses alongwith the Part Time MBA students.

Components of Phase II : (Research related Coursework)

The objective of Phase II is to develop understanding of the research concepts & processes related to general management and other functional areas. In Phase II the students will have to successfully complete the coursework in the core (Research Methodology, Quantitative Techniques & Social Theories) as well as functional areas (Finance, Marketing, HR, IT, Economics, Strategy and other related areas). As per the University rules the student is required to have 80% attendance in each subject. If the student fails to pass in any of the coursework, he / she has to re-register as per the university rules. The classes are held on weekends (Saturday & Sunday), twice a month. Totally approx. 30 days (15 Weekends) of classroom sessions are held throughout the year.

Components of Phase III : (Thesis related work)

The objective of Phase III is to provide the student with an opportunity to undertake original research in their area of interest. The thesis should be a scholarly contribution to the theoretical knowledge pertinent to the understanding and resolution of management problems.
