Dr. Gopalrao Khedkar Mahavidyalaya Gadegaon (Telhara) came into being in 1969 with its specific goals and objectives. It aimed at educating and upbringing the poor, backward and rural students scattering everywhere in remote rural areas around Telhara- Town. Residents of Telhara such as Mr. Atmaramji Patil Dhole, Mr. Bhikaji Tayade, Mr. Tulsiramji Agrawal, Mr. Dhansukdasji Thanvi, Mr.Deshmukh Saheb and even the farmer had rendered notable services by donating labours, finance and valuable times for the establishment of the institution.

Initially, the college was known as Shri. ShivajiArts and Commerce Mahavidyalaya. Keeping in mind the remarkable social work in this area of late Honorable Dr. Gopalrao alias Abasaheb Khedkar, the Rural Development Minister, Govt. of Maharashtra, the college was re-named as Dr. Gopalrao Khedkar Mahavidyalaya, Gadegaon(Telhara)as a respect to his social work. The Dharmal Sansthan of Gadegaon gave its land on leize to Shri. Shivaji Education Society. Since then, the name Gadegaon was included with the name of the college.

Latter, in the year 1975 Junior College and in 1992 M.C.V.C. had added to the college. The college, which was earlier started in a small accommodation , now has two- storied buildings for administrative and teaching purposes. There are separate Home Economics Laboratory, M.C.V.C. workshop building and administrative library. The college has other amenities such as a beautiful Green Garden, spacious playground for games and sports, Tube- well and Drinking water Tank, Gymnasium, Cycle Stand etc.
