At Middlesex we recognise the needs and challenges for mental health practitioners working with dementia sufferers in a wide range of settings. That's why we have developed this course to be beneficial for professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds including health and/or social care (acute, continuing, statutory, private and voluntary), the prison service, government agencies and more.



Taught by experienced practitioners who specialise in dementia, this course is designed to address issues raised within the National Service Framework for Older People and the Dementia Strategy, enabling you to critically reflect on your practice with particular focus on the socio political factors that influence and affect your work.

Course programme

Devised to enable you to maintain your professional employment while studying, this course is delivered in weekly study days at our London campus and consists of three modules at levels 6 or 7:

Meeting the Needs of People with Dementia and their Carers (MHR 3631/4631)
Delivering Evidence Based Dementia Care (MHR 3632/4632)
Practice Based Learning Project (MHR 3630/4630)
Using a combination of taught modules and practice based learning in your workplace you will explore the contemporary challenges of dementia care with particular focus on your own role and how practice in your own setting may be innovated or developed in order to improve care.

Designed to equip you with the advanced knowledge and clinical skills specified by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NIHCE) and Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE), this course will not only enhance your practice but increase your career prospects and award you with substantial academic credits that can be put towards further study in the future.

Assessment
For Meeting the Needs of People with Dementia and their Carers (MHR 3631/4631):

Level 6: 3000 word evidence based action plan including critical analysis
Level 7: 3000 word SWOT analysis and evidence based action plan including critical analysis
For Delivering Evidence Based Dementia Care (MHR 3632/4632):

3000 word critical appraisal of a therapeutic intervention(s) relevant to the care of a person with dementia
For Practice Based Learning Project (MHR 3630/4630):

Practice based learning project report

Additional information

Some of our students have their course fees covered by CPPD contracts between NHS trusts and Middlesex University.

Alternatively other students pay their own fees or are sponsored by their employer (but not under a CPPD contract).
