The Institute of Book Publishing, New Delhi, is the first of its kind in Asia. Responding to the growing needs for professionally trained and well-honed personnel to feed the growing book industry in the country, the institute was founded by the late Mr. O.P. Ghai, the founder Chairman of Sterling Publishers Pvt. Ltd. in 1986.Ever since its inception the Institute has been organising, and conducting courses in book publishing tailored for the middle level publishing professionals and the new entrants. The most prominent and perhaps the most prestigious of these programmes is the annual ten-day Condensed Course for Publishing Professionals.The 21st Condensed Course for Publishing Professionals will be held on Nov 10th-19th, 2008.The Institute has started an e-journal(monthly)Publishing Today, since December 2006.It gives the news about the publishing industry and interviews a publishing personality every month.The Institute is often approached by various vocational training colleges and universities in the country to organise short courses for their students/participants.From time to time, the Institute hosts lectures and group discussions on the topical issues of special interest to the members of the trade.Short seminars and discussions are also organised to coincide with the annual Book Fairs.These include discussions varying from subjects like, "Author-Publisher Relations", "Indian Copyright Laws and the International Intellectual property Rights", "The Art of Submitting
