Presently one course is offered in the subject of Engg. Physics at the first year
level of 4 year integrated degree course leading to B.E degree. The Engg Physics
forms the core course common to all branches in Engg. The topics of relevance to
the Engg. curriculum which are included are : Thermodynamics, Optics,
Electromagnetism, Modern Physics including Laser Physics.
• The teaching scheme followed for the course work in physics is 3(Lectures)-
0(Tutorials)-2(Practical) hours per week. No tutorial system is inducted in Physics
• The laboratory work relegates to various experiments on theory portions of
relevance. The instruction boards indicating the details of the performance of each
experiment such as aim and the theory of the experiment, working procedure,
method of tabulation, circuit connection and graphs are displayed as instrumental
charts hanging on the walls of the laboratory.
• The students are encouraged to develop a natural skill to perform each experiment
and to evaluate the personal errors corrected during the work.
A novel feature of these M. Sc programs will be the Dual Degree of M.Tech.
with M.Sc. when the students earn and fulfill the requisites. Papers regarding
the Dual Degree are being prepared and an approval from the government
authorities is expected soon.
