AC TO DC Converters: Operation, analysis and design of line commutated converters, inverter operation, dual operation, power factor improvement, PWM converters, control of converters, Operation analysis and control of cycloconverters.
AC Voltage Regulator: Operation and analysis of phase-controlled regulators, integral-cycle control.
Static switches: AC and DC switches.
DC TO DC Converter: operation, analysis and design of DC choppers, commutation methods, multiphase configuration, chopper control. Switching regulators, quasi resonant converters.
Inverters: voltage source and current source inverters, PWM techniques, commutation methods, series inverter, Resonant DC link inverter, multi-level inverters.
Converter Applications: Application consideration in the use of semiconductor converters in HVDC, static VAR compensation, welding and heating control, UPS, SMPS, aircraft power supplies, converter interfaces for non-conventional energy sources.
