Maintenance Function, types and objectives, standard terminology. Organisation for maintenance. Concept of Tero Technology, maintainability, availability and reliability, Failure mechanism and modes. Features of various types of maintenance, break down Vs preventive maintenance. Designing a preventive maintenance policy, maintenance planning models, renewal theory and replacement analysis, spare parts controls, use of queuing theory in maintenance system design optimum maintenance policy, reliability based maintenance policies.
Elements & structure of maintenance information systems, maintenance documentation, computer aided plant maintenance, work order system and maintenance control, development of quantitative indices for measurement of maintenance effectiveness. Economic aspect of maintenance: Maintenance costs, maintenance expenses distribution and budgeting, approaches to maintenance cost reduction. Tribology and lubrication, selection and maintenance of bearings, condition monitoring techniques, corrosion and wear, their types and control.
