The course work involves two compulsory papers and two optional papers. The compulsory papers focus on methods in social science. They are intended to train students in the conceptual and methodological aspects of research in political science. The optional papers are designed on the basis of the current strength of specialisation of the faculty. Students could choose the optional papers according to their area of interest. The teaching method involves lectures, presentations and seminars. Students are encouraged to make presentations, do book reviews and write term papers on topics being discussed. These papers are also discussed in the class. The second part of the course is a dissertation in an area chosen by the candidate. The dissertation is primarily based on secondary sources. The student will have an opportunity to review literature in a particular area. The dissertation topic is approved by the board of studies of the department.
