Course programme

The Course of Animal Production earlier named as Animal Husbandry came into being in 1964 as a result of bifurcation of the then Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. From the inception of the Department in 1956 when the College was founded the Department catered the need of Under-graduate teaching in Animal Science and Dairying. A joint Post-graduate Programme was instituted in 1964 which continued till 1966 when a separate programme in Animal Husbandry was started. In 1975 the Post-graduate programme was recorganised to offer specialization in Dairy Husbandry which later changed to Animal Husbandry as per need of the State. The Under-graduate teaching was extended to the College of Dairy Science and College of Home Science from the year 1980 and 1985, respectively. The Ph. D. Programme by course work was started in the year 2000.

In addition to teaching and research the Department associated itself with the extension activities of the Directorate of Extension Education in transmission of research finding to the farmers through various training programmes with the start of the Department. Two farms viz. Livestock and Poultry have been attached with it for teaching, research and extension purpose.

The Post-graduate students are mainly employed in the Agriculture Universities as Teacher, Subject Matter Specialist in Extension and as research Scientists. In addition, they are also employed as Officer in Nationalized Banks, Military Dairy Farms, Dairy Federation, Animal Husbandry Department in Education Department as School and College Teachers and some of them are self employed also.
