Introduction
The two year post graduation program is a practical science course that applies the molecular approaches of chemistry to the vast variety of biological systems. Genetics deals with the study of genes which reveals information preserved in DNA and which has been accumulated through evolution. The course broadly sketches out the structure function relationship in micro molecules, gene therapy, career, transgenic organization, disease résistence in plants, fermentation etc. The study of applied genetics has enabled biochemists to actually develop several processes and products that benefit mankind, like use of finger printing in forensic science. The program prepares individuals who can contribute enormously to areas that touch every day human life.

Course Information
The emphasis of the course is on practical laboratory work. M.Sc Applied Genetic students are encouraged to take up internal projects. Guest lectures in specialized papers are encouraged. They are encouraged to participate in work shops and training-programs related to Genetics.There are Industrial visits which keep them in pace with the latest technologies. Some of the subjects covered during the course of study are: Basic Genetics, Drosophila Genetics, Mosquito Genetics, Immuno Genetics, Behavioral Genetics, Human Genetics, Pharmaco Genetics, Medical Genetics, and Advanced Genetics etc.

The assessment methodology is a combination of practical laboratory involvement , dissertation work, seminars and term end examination.
