Bioinformatics has exploded in the last few years, in parallel with advancdes in molecular genetics, the development of Human and other Genome Projects and additional postgenomic activities, where generation of massive data sets is the norm. Advances in computer technology have provided access to sophisticated computational tools for the wider scientific communities that are required to process post genomic data. Several research areas have arisen de novo or shown spectacular development to address the needs of these endeavors - including for example, molecular modeling, statistics, genetics and bioinformatics.
What these areas within computational biology have in common is that they lie at the interface between a number of traditional disciplines - biology, biochemistry, computing, mathematics, statistics and chemistry. This has led to a spectacular increase in demand for individuals who have the necessary interdisciplinary skills. Such individuals are relatively rare and in great demand. Career prospects for those with relevant experience are probably better than in any other single area of science at present. The present curriculum will focus to meet the needs of developing trained manpower with multidisciplinary skills in the areas of bioinformatics for Research and Development, in industrial companies, public sectors, software executives, pharma companies, as well as in academics as faculties.The pattern of instructions and education in the university will be 'REGULAR'. The course duration shall be two years consisting of four semesters. Each academic year shall be divided into two semesters.
