Basic Ecology: Environment and biota interactions; concepts of habitat and ecological niches; limiting factors; energy flow; food chain and food web; biogeochemical cycles; ecosystem dynamics and management; environmental impact assessment; principles of conservation and conservation strategies
Environmental Pollution and Control – Types of pollution, methods and means of measurement; air pollution and control; water pollution – sources, collection and introduction to physical and chemical treatment systems

Biological Processes: Biofilters; microbiology of degradation; aerobic and anaerobic processes; bioremediation of pesticides and petroleum hydrocarbons; biomining and bioremoval of metals and metalloids; bioprospecting; bioreclamation of contaminated soils and aquatic systems; biological treatment of different process wastewaters; biological tools for solid waste management

Biomonitoring and Biosensors: Bioindicators, molecular approaches for environmental monitoring; applications of GMOs in pollution mitigation, biosensors
