Course programme

The importance of inland water resources for the welfare of mankind invites attention to understand their functioning and relation with the terrestrial ecosystem. The study on this aspect throws light on land water interaction (The main course of study under environmental sciences). Since the ecological study of inland waters has become one of the major areas of study, the department of Limnology came into existence and was established in the year 1979. Major thrust under this programme is laid on the study of: Land water interactions, Pollution/ Eutrophication of water bodies, Production at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, Management aspects of water bodies (Conservation/rehabilitation). The department offers a two years course (four semesters) in the "Limnology and Fisheries"; M.Phil. course in Fresh water ecology; besides Ph.D. programme in related fields.
A student in M.Sc. is taught 12 courses (papers) in the duration of 2 years (four semesters), accompanied with dissertation (project) in 4th semester. when students get an opportunity of working in leading national Institutes/Laboratories. Department has MOU with various national and international organizations for undertaking students projects, joint research projects and seminars and lectures on topics of mutual interest and relevance. Good number of sponsored research projects have been/are being run in the Department.
