Course programme

M.Sc. Physics:Nuclear Theory

Department of Physics is the largest and one of the prestigious departments of the University of Jammu. It offers two Post-graduate courses at the Master's Degree level, one in Physics & other in Electronics. Besides it runs M.Phil and Ph. D. programmes at the research level. The admission in all courses of study is done strictly on the basis of merit. The department has a long tradition of world class research in the field of High energy Physics , X-ray Crystallography, Crystal Growth and materials Research, Nuclear Theory, Electronics and Spectroscopy. The Department is also involved in international Collaborative experiments and is liberally funded by the national funding agencies

The research group in Nuclear Theory is engaged in the study of systematics of various physically measurable quantities that characterize the structure of nuclei (both exotic and non- exotic) in the wide mass range starting from A 90 to 140. The group has indigenously developed software for carrying out HF, HFB, VAP and Cranking calculations. Phenomena like coexistence of shapes, phase and shape transition, deformation systematics and spectroscopic of high spin states have been studied in terms of the momenta, angular momenta, single particle energies of the nucleons constituting the nuclei and also in terms of the occupation probabilities of the various nucleonic orbits.
