Course programme

The Nagland University was established by the Nagaland University Act, 1989 of the Parliament on 6th Sept. 1994. It is the only Central University in the State having three campuses, viz., Lumami Headquarters, Kohima and Medziphema. At present the University is functioning from its Kohima Campus as Interim Headquarters. The University is located in the tribal dominated State of Nagaland having borders with Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Myanmar (Burma on its long eastern stretch). Each Campus has its own administrative and academic unit to manage the day to day educational affairs.

The course of Plant Pathology was created among the Ten courses in the erstwhile College of Agriculture in 1978. The college has been offering core courses in Plant Pathology since 1978 and Elective courses since 1983. The Department started offering Post Graduate courses (Minor) in Horticulture since 1986. Post Graduate course programme in Plant Pathology was first started in 1989. After the establishment of Nagaland University, the Department runs regular PG course programmes wef 1997.
The department has Teaching, Research and extension activities with following objectives-
i) To develop specialized human resources in the field
ii) Research studies on living, non-living and environmental causes of Plant diseases and investigation for suitable control measures.
iii) To train extension workers un Agriculture and Plant protection officials with recent trends in plant disease control.
iv) To provide plant protection service to farmers and other plant growers.
v) To develop and provide technical know how for cultivation of mushrooms.
