Food engineering is concerned with the application of engineering principles to food processes and food processing equipment. Because engineering is a quantitative discipline, the food engineer's fundamental tool is mathematics. Chemistry and microbiology are also important disciplines because processes of concern to food engineers may involve chemical reaction reactions, microbial interactions, or both.
The curriculum in dairy science prepares the student for a career in dairy farm operation as a manager or owner; in sales of equipment or feed; in field services with processing plants, feed manufactures, breed associations and marketing agencies; in college research and teaching; as country extension agents, vocational agriculture teachers or research technicians.
