Those candidates who had studied under 10+2+3 pattern and hold degree like B.Sc in Science / B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc Agriculture / B.FSc. are eligible for admission to this programme through which they can develop their knowledge of the principles and applications of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and to solve real-world environmental problems.

Course programme

Geographic Information Systems popularly known as GIS is a rapidly growing technological field for resource planning and management. It has wide applications in almost all the fields of infrastructure development like land use planning, utilities management, landscape assessment and planning, transportation and infrastructure planning, real estate analysis, telecommunications, power transmission and distribution and many other unlimited applications. GIS and Remote Sensing (RS) have already influenced us in almost every aspect of life. The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of trained manpower readily available for recruitment in various utilities working on GIS and Remote Sensing fields.
Programme content
The programme consists of both core and optional elements. The core develops knowledge and skills in GIS and remote sensing. The optional element of the course allows students to develop skills in related areas such as environmental impact assessment, water resources management, environmental modelling and computing.
Core topics include: ArcView and Erdas Imagine software training.

\uDBC0\uDC99 Spatial data analysis and visualization.

\uDBC0\uDC99 Applied GIS and remote sensing project, working with a research or industrial partner.
Students submit a dissertation based on an original piece of research for the award of the M.Sc, but those not wishing to continue to the dissertation can be awarded the PG Dip in Applied GIS and Remote Sensing.
Career progression
Geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing are now key technologies in a range of fields including: landscape andecological surveying, water resource management, forestry and conservation and rural and urban planning. Employers in these areas expect prospective employees to be equipped with high level skills and to know how to incorporate GIS and remote sensing to solve real-world problems. This course will provide them with the practical experience, specialist knowledge and problem-solving skills to pursue careers in any of these fields.
