The Guru Nanak Dev University's Faculty of Languages offers M.A. in Urdu course to its students. The course structure for it is as follows:

Paper - I Modern Theory
Bang - i - Dara (First Part) by Dr. Sir Moh. Iqbal.
Naqsh - Farya di by Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
Rumuz - i - Kinayat (First 150 pages) by Firoq Gorakhpuri.
Kulliyar - i - Nazir (Hiesa - i - Nazam Barai - Ahi - i - Hanud).

Paper - II Novel Short Story and Drama
A) Novel: (i) Gaudaan by Munshi Prem Chand.
B) Short Story: Apne Sukh Mujhe De Do by Rajinder Singh Bedi.
C) Drama and one act play: i) Anar Kali by Imtiaz Ali Taj.
ii) Nai Drama (ed.) Dr. Mohd. Hussan.

The following Dramas are included in the course.
a) Chhote Mian by Asghar Batt.
b) Faltoo Cheezen by Aagha Bhadur.
c) Aurat aur Taash ke Patte by Anwar Inayat Ullah.
d) Jonk by Upendar Nath Ashak.
e) Akhbar ka Daftar by Javed Iqbal.
f) Naqal - i - Makani by Rajinder Singh Bedi.

Paper - III: Special Study of any one:
i) Prem Chand or ii) Iqbal or Ghalib.
