The course Social Work offers two years Postgraduate course and M.Phil research Programme. In addition Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling for Contemporary Social Work is offered as a package .
As an integral part of social work programme, field work for two days a week is offered. It enables the students to acquire practical skills in working with people belonging to various sectors of life. Besides, it enables them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. Sincere efforts are taken to place the students for their fieldwork practice in well-reputed organizations, industries and hospitals. Apart from these, the students are given training in various avenues pertaining to Social Work. One hour individual conference everyday makes the faculty interact with students in solving problems of field work and of personal nature. Innovative teaching methodologies like psychological games are adopted in teaching, Rural Camp is conducted for the first year students in the second semester for 10 days to make them learn the group living skills and community participation techniques. Extra curricular activities include training students in street plays, skits, folk dances, songs, mimes, tableaus etc is done through the concept of social lab. It helps the students equip themselves to conduct social awareness programmes which are related to current issues like AIDS, Child labour,Women's issue etc., Disaster mitigations, awareness programme to the Urban / Rural community on current social issues are some of the extension programmes of the department. As a part of pre employment training students are placed for one month in reputed organizations, industries and hospitals after their final examinations. P.G. Diploma in Counselling skills in Contemporary Social Work is offered as a package along with MSW degree.
