MA in Journalism & Mass Communication
In India, the tradition of a pluralistic, relatively independent press dates back to more than 200 years. Enriched by its active involvement in the freedom struggle, the press has developed impressively since independence. The other mass media-Radio, Television and Online or "New" media-have also made significant progress in recent decades. Therefore, there is a vital need to consolidate media strengths, overcome weaknesses and raise the professional, intellectual and ethical standards of JOURNALISM, so as to bring the performance of the media unto advanced international levels.
The main motivating factor behind the creation of this Institute is the overwhelming need to improve the quality of journalism and elevate the stature of the profession in India. The Institute's mission is to educate students in a broad range of skills and concepts involving the gathering, editing and presentation of information, and prepare them for a career in journalism
During a full academic year, students work in the high-pressure deadline atmosphere of the journalism profession through their assignments in reporting, writing, editing and using presentation tools. Students get to interact with various media representatives. Media workshops will also be conducted from time to time to familiarize the students with printing, publication, presentation, programming, production and other aspects of mass media including working on an in-house newspaper, magazines, web publication or television programme.
