Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline which involves the application of principles of Physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. It requires a solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, energy and manufacturing. Mechanical engineers use the core principles as well as other knowledge in the field to design and analyze motor vehicles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, watercraft, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, robotics, medical devices, etc.

The work of a Mechanical Engineer can be extremely challenging and fulfilling, requiring IT, design and analytical skills together with an ability to work as a team. As their work involves production, transmission and use of mechanical power and heat, they have to analyze the different materials used for the machines; investigate the different energy sources and the power they generate and the design problems if any. While designing and making a commercial product; they have to take into account all the business and marketing aspects to make sure that the product is affordable. Mechanical Engineers are employed in various industries whose function is concerned with design, manufacturing, maintenance, mining, transportation, communications, oil refining, chemical manufacturing, paper, sugar, textiles, aerospace, nuclear energy, natural gas production and transmission, construction, etc.

The Department offers graduate degree B.E in Mechanical Engineering and Post Graduate degree M.E. in Mechanical-Manufacturing System Engineering affiliated to Mumbai University. Mechanical Engineering Department is the biggest department established in 1994. This branch includes the area of Design, Thermal, Production, CAD-CAM, and Workshop. CAD-CAM is having recent modern licensed software such as IDEAS 8.0, ANSYS8, Auto desk Inventor series 7.0 etc. Department has setup a semi production CNC lathe machine with ultra modern facilities. Department has well experienced and qualified faculty to its credit. A complete automation lab, Instrumentation lab and computerized CCT camera & analyzer facilities are already setup.
