Mechanical engineering department provides a modern curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities, that take care of the present and future requirements of any manufacturing industry in India and abroad. The subjects taught are traditional subjects like material science, mechanics of solids, fluid mechanics and machinery, thermal engineering and refrigeration, machine design and new subjects like computer integrated manufacturing, CAD/CAM, robotics, composite materials and computational fluid dynamics.

The department possesses well equipped laboratories. They are Material testing laboratory, F M laboratory, Production engineering laboratory, Thermal engineering laboratory, Instrumentation laboratory, CAD/CAM and robotics laboratory and Workshop.
The Faculty members of the department are those who have specialized in various subjects and possess many years of experience in teaching and industry. Regular assignments and class tests are given in order to assess the progress of each student in the respective subjects. The mechanical engineering association is instrumental to conduct seminars and workshops by bringing external experts from industry and other institutions. Through these programs students get an insight into the real life situation. Periodically the department arranges training programs for personality development and improvement of communication skills. This helps students in their placement. Students are also sent for industrial visits so that they get exposed to real world situation in engineering.

The career opportunities of mechanical engineering graduates are plenty and diverse. In addition to manufacturing sector, they are also employed in the IT sectors now. Automobile, aeronautical, marine and offshore engineering industries also employ mechanical engineers.
