Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has launched a Mission Mode Project on Seismology in the 10th plan. Under the Mission Mode Project, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Tezpur University has proposed to introduce a 2-year M.Tech Programme in Computational Seismology. Similar 2-year programme is also being conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur under the same Mission Mode Project. Purpose of this course is to train scholars for addressing the problems of the mitigation of adverse impacts of earthquakes through mathematical analysis and computer simulation for extracting meaningful interpretation from the available data. Apart from regular faculty members, experts from reputed institutions such as CMAACS, IIT Kharagpur, ISI Kolkata take classes as visiting faculty.
