P.hd in Environment Science

The study of chemistry and its application is integral to the study of engineering and technology. A good understanding of the subject gives the students the leverage to know the artifice of technology. The students learn the knowledge of Chemical compounds and their applications, so very important especially in electronics and computer engineering, environmental engineering. The Department gives more emphasis on analytical approach, clear theoretical concepts and overall performance of the students in order to achieve academic excellence. The department has graduated to include studies and research in environmental engineering and chemistry. It has a dedicated laboratory where research is conducted in Waste Utilization. The Department of Chemistry has a customized functional laboratory for first year B.Tech. students. The evaluation of chemistry laboratory is based on day-to-day performance, viva-voce / quizzes and laboratory test at the end of the semester.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES :

The Department is engaged in research in the thrust areas of Applied Chemistry and Environment Science. The faculty members have published a number of research papers in the National and International journals of repute. Presently, four research scholars and one faculty member have registered for their Ph.D in Chemistry under SOA University. The senior faculty members of the Department are supervising the research scholars.

An AICTE sponsored project under MODROB scheme has been implemented. Instruments like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Dissolved Oxygen-meter, TDS -EC analyser, Nephelo-Turbidity meter, BOD incubator, digital pH meter have been installed. Presently research work has been undertaken in the areas of water analysis and solid waste characterization and solvent extraction studies. Other instruments like, Conductivity meter and Ultrasonic Interferometer are already in use for the molecular interaction studies of various systems. B.Tech. students are encouraged to gain more knowledge in the field of chemical technology and environmental engineering for their project work.

The department is committed to sustain the scientific enquiry of the students and research that is socially beneficial.
