P.hd in Mechanical Engineering

Every department is provided with state of the art modern laboratory equipments. College has sophisticated centralized Computer Center. In addition, each department is attached with a Computer Center with latest Desktops. Separate Internet Lab facilities are provided for the students, Modern CNC machines are also available to students for practice. All efforts are made to maintain high academic standards instilling confidence to face new challenges.

The Department started in 1980, with the space provided by the Anjuman Arts, Commerce and Science College for conducting classes and for use as a temporary central workshop. In the earlier years, the Department collaborated with M I T, Manipal and BVB College of Engineering & Technology, Hubli for its laboratory practice classes. Students stayed at these institutes for sometime to finish part of their courses. At that time the affiliation of the Department was with Karnatak University, Dharwad. The Departmental Laboratories were planned as per the curriculum prescribed by the University.

The Department added a Machine Shop, Internal Combustion Engines Laboratory and the Heat Transfer Laboratory in the second phase ie, during 1984-1986. Dynamics and Vibrations Study Laboratory, Material Science and Material Testing Laboratory, Measurements & Metrology Laboratory and the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory became functional in 1987. In 1989 Non-IBR type of boiler was erected for the purpose of demonstrating the working of the boiler to the students. In 1990 Trainer Master CNC Lathe of HMT make was purchased. Profile Projector and Tool Makers Microscope were added to the Measurements & Metrology Laboratory in 1995. A computerized Engine Testing Rig was erected in1999. An Impression Creep Test setup was built in 2001.The department has proceure the required softwares like AUTOCAD, SOLID EDGE,PRO-E,CATIA,Mechanical Desktop etc.

The Department has a sufficiently strong faculty with a majority of P G degree holders. Faculty members regularly attend technical workshops and seminars organized by various other technical institutes and have presented papers at the National Level Seminars. For two years, from 2003 to 2005, the department was associated with the Training Programme planned for the employees of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited. In December 2004 Prof Udayaprasanna attended an International Seminar on " Creep and Fatigue of Materials" at IGCAR, Government of India, Kalappakam, Tamil Nadu.

Training programmes and visits to the factories and industrial plants are arranged for them regularly. They are also motivated to take up training at factories during vacation periods. Project Works based on the industry problems are constantly being handled by the students. The Department, moreover, encourages Sports activities among students. Through the Department Association, students conduct Quiz competitions, Essay Competitions etc.
The Department is capable of offering specialized training on subjects like CAD, CAM, FEM, Robotics, Computational Methods for engineers, Theory of Elasticity, Energy Conservation , Processing of Composite Materials, Physical Metallurgy for engineers, Creep and Fatigue phenomenon in materials, Non Destructive Testing of Materials, Dislocation Theory etc, which it proposes to organize in future even for outsiders. Through the Akshay Urja Club, established in November 2006, it proposes to make use of the non-conventional energy sources for campus utility. Through the Entrepreneurship Development Cell which was established in 2002, it proposes to impart continuous training to the out-going students who are interested in setting up new ventures of their own.The department has plan to start the PG and Research center from the coming Academic Year.
