The Post Graduate Programme on VLSI Design was started in the year 2000. The Programme covers the entire gamut of VLSI and System Design. The department has a competent and commited faculty team specialized in VLSI Design. ASIC /FPGA design, EDA Tools and Domain Specific trainings are characteristic features of the programme with advanced VLSI Design centre.

PSG College of Technology was chosen to be a Participating Institution by the Dept. of IT, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Govt of India under the Special Manpower Development Programme (SMDP) for VLSI Design & Related Software along with other premier institutions like IITs and NITs, to develop expertise in the area of VLSI Design and related softwares.

VLSI Design Centre

The VLSI Design Centre setup under the SMDP, hosts extensive facilities for providing training in the area of VLSI Design. VLSI Design centre provides an platform for various research works. The infrastructure comprises of a variety of modern computing facilities and an extensive array of associated software packages. The centre has EDA Tools like Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Xilinx, Cadence, Co- Ware, Magma, Tanner Pro etc and latest hardware facilities.

Indiachip Programme

The students of the M.E-VLSI Design Programme are actively participating in India Chip Programme initiated by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), New Delhi, through the "Special Manpower Development Programme for VLSI Design and related softwares (SMDP-II)" Project. Under this programme IC designers can prototype their designs inexpensively through cost sharing. Different circuits from various IC designers are put on a common mask set and wafers thereby reducing the cost of prototyping per design.
