Career Opportunities
Petroleum products, ranging from gas for cooking and power generation to heavier fractions as raw material for the manufacture of durable synthetic fiber for clothes, are essentials of modern living. Petroleum Engineers specially trained for the purpose are therefore inevitable.
BE (Petroleum Engineering)
BE (Petroleum) is a four-year undergraduate course of eight semesters (5 papers each) conducted and assessed by the University of Pune . It covers the syllabus that has advanced topics in Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Drilling, Production and Transport phenomena, Natural Gas Engineering, Environment and Safety Management. This programme is accredited to the National Board of Accreditation of the AICTE, New Delhi .
In order to give a "feel." of the industry, a vocational training is arranged for students by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., Oil India Ltd. and other organizations at their installations. The department has a close interaction with the petroleum industry.

The department is also actively involved in research activities pertaining to Petroleum Engineering. The department has a close interaction with the industry and a strong bond with the alumni.
M.E. (Petroleum Engineering) by Papers
A post-graduate course of Master of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering has been started in the Department since July 1998. This is a two-year programme. A post- graduate degree (M.E.) is awarded by the University of Pune . This programme aims at developing expertise in petroleum engineering, having an aptitude towards research and development work.
M.E. (Petroleum Engineering) by Research
The department also offers M.E. (Petroleum) degree by research for the candidates who are working in oil and gas industry for more than five years after graduation. The student admitted to M.E. (by research) will be required to appear and pass any four papers from amongst the papers for the regular M.E. course, and submit a research report.
Industrial Training
Industrial exposure is necessary for a technology oriented professional course. Therefore industrial training is arranged for each student in various semesters by the Department. In addition, visits to industries and exhibitions are also encouraged.
