PGDBI (PG Dip. in Bio Informatics)

This one year programme is designed for students who have relevant scientific and technical background to upgrade themselves and stay relevant. The curriculum will provide them with a skill-set for the creation of excellent, well-validated methods for solving problems in the domain of bioinformatics and related fields that will emerge as a consequence of the drive in Biomedical Sciences research. The curriculum will cover biology; significant coursework in algorithms; biostatistics, data analysis and data mining; a substantial number of computer-related skills, information technology, and seminars.
Bioinformatics is defined as the application of tools of computation and analysis to the capture and interpretation of biological data. It is an interdisciplinary field, which harnesses computer science, mathematics, physics, and biology. Bioinformatics is essential for management of data in modern biology and medicine.
"Industry right now has an enormous demand for people who have the diverse skill set needed in bioinformatics. The requirements are for people who have substantial training on the computer science side [and] are well-grounded in biology. There is a particularly big demand for people who can communicate with both biologists and computer scientists. These people are simply few and far between."
