What you'll learn on the course
The course is suitable for managers who wish to develop their careers in the Private, Public and Charitable sectors supported by an uptodate, postgraduate level business qualification. Holders of the CIPD, CIM, CIFA and ILEX qualifications may wish to broaden their management knowledge by studying for the PG Dip in Management Studies.
A good first degree (or professional equivalent) plus at least 2 years management experience OR 5 years experience with at least two years management experience. English language is required at 6.5 IELTS level. All applicants are assessed for their current levels of literacy and numeracy by an on-line Skills Builder assessment.
Information about the course
The Pg Dip in Managment Studies is a nationally recognised postgraduate level qualification which provides the knowledge and understanding for senior managers. On successful completion, students can progress onto the final year of the University of Hertfordshire’s Master's degree in Management Studies (MSc). Alternatively, successful Pg Dip Mgt Studies students can continue onto an MBA programme.
Developing the Self - develops a range of intellectual, social and practical skills required to undertake managerial work in today's business world. Students will develop personal skills and strategies for building confidence and handling office politics; develop techniques for enhancing creativity and problem-solving ability; communicate better in a business environment
Competing through Marketing - provides you with the knowledge and understanding of the role and function of marketing in the business organisation and its decision making. You will develop an understanding of the role of marketing planning and the techniques which are used to create competitive advantage in the highly competitive environment of today. You will also learn about the tools that marketing professionals use to review customers, markets and products and be able to use them to create your own innovative plans and solutions.
Accounting and Finance - develops your knowledge and use of financial information and how to interact effectively with both financial and non-financial management. You will learn how to assess and use financial information to assist the management of the organisation, to develop plans and solve business problems.
Managing Information - provides an understanding of the role of computerised business information systems within the enterprise, an understanding of the activities involved in developing information systems and an appreciation of issues in relation to information systems strategy. It also provides an understanding of how both data is gathered and how data and financial measures are used to plan, monitor and control the progress of the organisation including specifying costing and accounting / financial information processes.
The course is modular and is delivered on a part-time basis in order to make it accessible to busy managers. Assessment is through written assignments (essays/reports) of approximately 3,000 words; in-class tests and presentations to other students on the course; a combination of both individual and group assignments are used.
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from the University of Hertfordshire. On successful completion, students can progress into the final year of the University of Hertfordshire’s Master's degree in Management Studies (MSc). Alternatively, successful Pg Dip Mgt Studies students can enrol on the MBA programme.
