Aqueous based methods are utilized to prepare various types of biofunctionalised fluorescent nanocrystals that can be utilized for targeted cancer therapy. This apart, work is also focused on developing nanomaterials for targeted gene delivery.
The program also offers clinical exposure in one of the many operation theatres of the hospital to help students develop an understanding of the medical applications of nanotechnology. In short, this is a pioneering program that aims to develop an all-round scientist and technologist with interdisciplinary specialization in three areas -- nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical sciences. The first batch of students began in August 2007.
